The Cow Shall Feed With the Bear by MickeyRayRex The Cow Shall Feed With the Bear by MickeyRayRex
On an open meadow in Ice Age Europe, a steppe bison reluctantly shares his patch of pasture with a cave bear, who compared to other bear species is extremely herbivorous. The bison keeps a watchful eye on the bear in case he decides to have some meat with his vegetables.
Setting: Germany, 60,000 B.C.

Nice!

The cave bear now has more of a huggable façade, IMO.

It seems  cave bears were the vegetarian hippies of the ursine family, along with the giant panda, good news for the bison.:D (Big Grin)

There are some who say it still may have eaten meat, but most of the evidence points to a vegetarian diet. The bison or any other herbivore i'm sure would still be wary just because its a bear.

I've read that what the cave bear eats depends on where that individual lived.

Oh. Darn...

Would you happen to know the name of some/any of them? And how did you come across them; if so, could you please tell me, I'd like to know more.

Great work! Very appropriate title as well, since, if the bison in female, it is very truly a cow, and the bear is a bear (even better, a female bear is a "sow", which rhymes). It's nice to see someone recognise the cave bears feeding habits for once; it's often seen as a giant monster bear from the ice age, despite the fact that it was around the same size as a Kodiak (that's only boars, sows were MUCH smaller), and that teeth indicate a virtual herbivore.
In fact, in a paper published in June 2015, it was stated that the evidence suggested that brown bears that overlapped with the cave bear were generally more carnivorous, due to competition for plant resources from cave bears, whereas the opposite extreme was visited by brown bears that overlapped with the highly carnivorous arctodus, among other interesting finds:

Thanks man! :) Yeah after I learned they were practically herbivores I thought "maybe they grazed alongside other herbivores!" Also the bison is supposed to be a male, but I was making a reference to Isaiah 11:7 with the title.

I see. I imagine they may gone a bit further. Fruit, roots, fungi, flowers, berries, pine cones and nuts are all consumed by modern brown bears (close relatives- most recent common ancestor was shared aroun 1.4 million years ago, closer than us and homo antecessor).
