Behemothosaurus elephamimus is the largest animal on the plateau of the Lost World. A descendent of the giant sauropods of the Cretaceous such as Argentinosaurus and Dreadnoughtus, Behemothosaurus can weigh up to 35 tons an be almost 90 feet long. They have a massive stomach cavity to digest more than a ton of plant matter ever day, a long neck to reach vegetation, and a similarly long tail to defend itself with, though almost no predators will attack a full grown, healthy adult. They travel in small herds of females and their offspring, while males travel alone. The limited food supply on the plateau means the Behemothosaurus only have small herds, and only have a small amount of offspring, which, unlike their Cretaceous ancestors, they fiercely defend. Their herding behavior and their parental care give them their specific name "elephamimus" meaning "elephant mimic".
